SEO Scotland - SEO Expert Based in Ayrshire: My Journey and Techniques

Hi, I'm Marcus Binnie, an SEO expert based in Ayrshire, UK. In this blog post, I want to share with you my journey into SEO and how I help my clients grow their online visibility. I will also discuss some of the tools and techniques I use to achieve SEO success.

How I Got Into SEO

My journey into SEO started with my passion for design, specifically graphic design and motion design. However, I realized that design alone wouldn't bring in enough income, so I taught myself web design and started a business called Promo Designs. However, I struggled to find web design clients as many businesses already had websites. That's when I discovered that many websites were barely visible online, living on the second, third, or fourth pages of Google. This gave me the idea to help these businesses improve their online visibility through SEO.

My business's logo and name - Promo Designs.

To differentiate myself from other SEO services, I offered a guarantee. If I couldn't get a client an ROI, more leads, and more web traffic, I would pay them back the service fee I charged. This guarantee, combined with my affordable price point (I charged £300 per month at the start), helped me stand out in a crowded market. Now, I have 10 clients and counting.

My SEO Tools and Techniques

To achieve SEO success, I use a variety of tools and techniques. These include:

  1. Keyword research: I use a paid version of SEMRush, Google Analytics, and Google Search Console to find the right keywords for my clients' websites.

  2. Backlinking: I focus on building high-quality backlinks from high authority websites to improve my clients' topical authority. I also recorded a short video that I'll link below that I posted on Instagram that covers topical authority/relevancy! Since the two are sometimes used interchangeably, it's important to highlight that authority refers to being a go-to source for information on a specific topic (or topics) and relevancy refers to also providing an element of trust as well (such as having qualifications, case studies and matching search intent to back up your authority). (I intend to include an actionable top tip in all of my blog posts!)

  3. Business directories: I add my clients' sites to relevant business directories to increase their online visibility.

  4. Low KD keywords: I rank my clients' websites for low KD keywords to establish their authority before targeting higher difficulty keywords.

  5. Outbound and internal linking: I use outbound and internal linking to give Google a better understanding of my clients' web pages.

  6. Reverse engineering success: I analyse what's already ranking high on the SERPs and replicate the winning strategies for my clients' websites.

My Clientele

I will be talking about some of my clients that I have worked with, some of these clients include Easyline Laundry Chutes, Strive Personal Training and Envirosmart.
